This 8 Tracks segment garnered the most responses on the text line of any previous segment. Listener Erica challenged us to find “sound-alike” songs, giving us the example of “Somebody That I Used to Know” by Gotye being the foundation for “Anxiety” by Doechii.
These are called interpolations: when the melody, structure, or other element of a song is turned into an entirely new composition. As it turns out you all went crazy for this feature! When I played Stevie Wonder's “Pastime Paradise” into Coolio's interpolated “Gangstas Paradise," one listener text: “This is blowing my mind. I thought gangsters paradise [sic] was the original and then there was Amish Paradise [Weird Al parody song]. I had no idea this Stevie Wonder song existed.”
