On this week's episode of the Eight One Sixty, Chris takes a deep dive into the Folk Unlocked Virtual Conference. This year would've marked the return of the Folk Alliance International Conference to Kansas City, after spending the last two years in Canada and New Orleans.
The physical return to KC will have to wait till 2022, but the good people at Folk Alliance are NOT taking the year off. Instead, they've curated and created an amazing virtual conference from Feb. 22 through 25. Like the in-person conference, the virtual event will feature musicians from countries all over the world. If you've ever been to the Folk Alliance Conference, you know they're amazing curators of talent.
On the radio show this week we'll hear music from several of the acts on the lineup, including Steve Poltz (from Canada, now U.S.), Kelly Hunt (KC), Elana Dara (Brazil), Élage Diouf (Senegal in West Africa, now Canada), Lanita Smith (Memphis, now Los Angeles), XANI (Melbourne, Australia), Idris Lawal (Nigerian born, now based in Toronto), Beny Es Guerra and New Tradition Music (from Bogotá, Colombia, now based in Canada), Oscar Blue (Ireland) and Keb' Mo' (Compton, Los Angeles).
Another amazing thing — watching performances by these acts and so many others is available to you for a donation of whatever you see fit. The money raised from donations by viewers will be turned into grants and given to musicians in need during these crazy times.
