Katy Guillen & the Drive: 'Willingly' Exclusive Song Premiere
If you listen to 90.9 The Bridge, Katy Guillen is a name that you may be familiar with. A staple in the Kansas City music community, Guillen's music has been played in the variable forms it has taken over the years on The Bridge. Simply put, this is because she is a brilliant musician. From supporting artists like the Doobie Brothers, The Heartless Bastards and Robin Trower, to enthralling sold-out shows in her hometown of Kansas City, Guillen's captivating guitar skills paired with her stellar arrangements and collaborations put her on par with some of the finest musicians in the world.
Now out with her newest iteration, Katy Guillen & the Drive, she builds on the synergy established with bandmate Stephanie Williams (also a former member of Katy Guillen & the Girls and currently half of their duo Womanish Girl) to propel her artistry forward. When speaking about her upcoming EP "Dream Girl," Guillen explains that it's a "collection of songs that Steph and I started working on over a year ago, and road tested in a few different scenarios this last year. 2019 was all about exploring, trying a lot of different things out and seeing what was going to work best for our creative process."
Though the official EP release date is not until mid-March, Kansas City fans are in for a particularly special treat as there will be an exclusive EP pre-release show at Knuckleheads this Saturday, Jan. 11 with Wichita songstress Jenny Wood. KC fans can also buy CDs and other "fun stuff" at the show.
Additionally, the first single "Willingly" releases today, and we have the great privilege of premiering it for you here:
