Heavier Than Ever: A Grand Slam Night with Hembree, Post Sex Nachos & Paris Williams
Kansas City's newest music venue, Warehouse On Broadway, hosted a big homecoming night on Saturday for a few bistate champions.
The roster was stacked with the charismatic hip hop of KC's own Paris Williams, followed by Columbia, MO breakout indie-pop boys Post Sex Nachos, and the pride of Fort Scott, KS, Hembree.
Following Williams' remarkable performance with his band, the Bittersweet Bunch, it was on to the Post [Sex Nachos] season. The five-piece came out swinging, clad in custom baseball jerseys and armed with hooks upon hooks for a ravenous audience.
Hembree front-loaded their set with a number of new tunes. For the four members – all of whom were sporting Royals' uniforms – it was a wonderful night of collaborations with hometown besties. Founding member Garrett Childers, who retired from the band last year, received an enthusiastic welcome and accompanied them on backing vocals for several songs. Post Sex Nachos' lead guitarist Mitch Broddon added octane to the set, while Marty Hillard grooved with the band through their single “Operators” and unleashed a potent rendition of “Bulls On Parade.”
The brand-new Warehouse, owned by long-time promoter Neill Smith, was the perfect setting for this spring classic. Check out some photos from the evening by contributor Josie Newman.
