Bridge Artist of the Week: Brass & Boujee
Our latest Bridge Artist of the Week includes up to 25 of the city's leading musicians! A collaboration of the Marcus Lewis Big Band with emcees Kadesh Flow and Kemet the Phantom, Brass & Boujee is a brilliant intersection of jazz and hip hop. Trombonist and band leader Lewis arranged original songs written by both emcees for his 17-piece big band, making a splash with its 2018 debut album (including The Bridge's Best Of 2018 lists). Along with reaching the top of the iTunes jazz chart and Billboard Contemporary Jazz chart, Brass & Boujee had the opportunity to support Janelle Monáe in 2018 at Starlight Theatre.
Get a closer look at the group from this 2018 article written by Michelle Bacon. Brass & Boujee doesn't play too often, so make plans to catch them at recordBar this Friday, Jan. 17 with NuBlvckCity. Tickets are available.
We'll be spinning tunes from Brass & Boujee — plus solo selections from Kadesh and Kemet — on the air all this week. On Thursday morning, we'll premiere a new single from Kadesh off his upcoming EP, "Motivated." Stay tuned!
